In the Summer months, bass will congregate in the shallows and slam these big bugs when they dip down into the water or get stranded. You can even find them leaping out of the water to grab them from the air. This tends to happen in the heat of the day, often when thought NOT to bass fish. This bulky pattern "splats" down just right and elicits that response that we are looking for. Even though the pattern looks great, it's more about the landing than anything. They can't resist. This is one surface bug that should be in the box of any serious bass angler.
