Gumdropper- Soft Hackle

The Gum Dropper is a hot steelhead a trout soft hackle fly that we have been playing around with for a few years here locally. Started hearing of it's success elsewhere so we decided to add it to the line-up here at the ship. We are glad we did.

A pretty simple "soft hackle" style fly that features a black bead and some black hackle. The body is made from a latex type material with a thin, sparkle rib and coated with a very thin coat of UV. This makes for a wildly buggy/grubby appearance, especially under water (which is where it counts). This fly has been a top steelhead producer for us but also catches the living crap out of trout as well. Use is as a point fly in a dropper rig or fish it alone. Dead drift it or swing it. Flat out catches fish.

The Gum Dropper is tied on a size 10, stout hook and pretty heavy so it gets down quick. Featured here is the Watermelon color which features a green "hot spot" of thread behind the bead. This color also works very well where large caddis species are found.
